Biography: This American serial killer was arrested in 2001 as he left his job at a Renton, Washington factory. At the time of the arrest, he was believed to have been involved in the murders of four prostitutes, however, once in custody, Ridgway confessed to 48 murders. He was born in Salt lake City, Utah, into a family controlled by a violent, domineering mother who was especially hard on young Gary Ridgway. Family members have stated that Ridgway was still bed-wetting at the age of thirteen and that he scored extremely low on IQ tests which contributed to his having to repeat grades in high school. In his teenage years, Ridgway became aggressive and was constantly in trouble. He served in Vietnam, came home and entered into two failed marriages. He was arrested on multiple occasions on charges relating to his soliciting prostitutes, and as early as 1983 was considered a suspect in the Green River killings. Amazingly enough, he was released each time to continue his murderous ways. Under a plea bargain agreement after his conviction, he avoided the death penalty and is now serving life imprisonment.
