Crime: One of the most notorious serial killers in history, Dahmer is credited with the murders of 17 men and boys over a 13 year period. His notoriety comes from the gruesome nature of the crimes which included necrophilia and cannibalism.
Biography: Dahmer was born in 1960 in West Allis, Wisconsin. His early life is reported to have been normal, but his actions soon served to portent what his adult life would bring. Sometime around the age of 10, Dahmer became withdrawn and exhibited no real interest in social activities. He spent hours riding around the neighborhoods looking for dead animals, which he would bring home and dissect. In his teens, Dahmer became a full-blown alcoholic. Due to his drinking, he dropped out of college and was later discharged from the military. His first murder came in 1978, while he was still living at home with his father. He picked up a hitchhiker, brought him home and bludgeoned him to death with a barbell. The body was buried in his fathers back yard. Nine years passed before he struck again, this time while he was living with his grandmother where he ended up burying the bodies in her basement. She asked him to move out in 1990, and he moved into the apartment where he would commit the most infamous of his murders. By 1991, Dahmer was killing at least once a week and it was then that other residents of the apartment complex began complaining about the smells coming from Dahmer's apartment and the late night sounds of him using power tools. Finally, in July of 1991, an attempted murder went awry and the victim escaped, leading police back to the apartment filled with body parts in the refrigerator, large vats of acid with decomposing bodies and a bedroom wall covered with pictures of his victims in various states of torture. Dahmer was murdered in prison in 1994.
