Category: Spree Killing
Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Date: December 6, 1989
Crime: Entered Ecole Polytechnique University with a semi-automatic rifle and a hunting knife and over the next twenty minutes shot twenty-eight students, targeting women. This rampage claimed fourteen lives and injured another fourteen before L(pine shot himself.
Biography: Born to a French-Canadian mother and an Algerian father, it has been reported that L(pine was physically beaten by his father throughout his childhood. He was described as very uncommunicative, rarely showing any emotion and that he had major issues with authority figures. He didn't drink or smoke and was never known to have had a girlfriend. Marc L(pine was 25 years old when he took his legally obtained rifle and a hunting knife and went on the rampage. A suicide note that he carried in his pocket shed some light on his motives for the attack. In it, he ranted about feminists ruining his life and how they drove certain social changes which radically reduced the rights of men. He also claimed that he had been planning some form of execution-style attack on feminists for seven years. During the attack, he continually separated the women from the men, sending the male students fleeing for safety, then methodically shooting the female students. Another note found on his person, listed 19 women, whom he considered radical feminists with an apology for not having the time to kill them also.
