Crime: Minnie Dean was a 19th Century New Zealander who was found guilty of the crime of infanticide. Upon her conviction she was hanged.
Biography: In some of the more grisly moments of her life, she was known to carry dead babies around, post the murder, in a hatbox. She managed to get her hands on infants because at the time New Zealand had many cases of unwanted babies. She took in as many as nine babies at a time.
In 2009 the family of Dean laid a headstone on her grave to commemorate her memory.
